Aaron Jones has the goods to save the Packers’ backfield

Aaron Jones wasn’t meant to be the Packers’ lead running back in 2017, but all of sudden, the rookie might need to be for a while — and Green Bay should be just fine with that.

Converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery was headed for a terrific all-purpose first season as a full-time back until he was forced out of Thursday night’s 35-14 rout of the Bears after reportedly breaking several ribs early in the first quarter.

Rookie fourth-rounder Jamaal Williams, who was running ahead of fifth-rounder Jones as the No. 2 back all offseason, came on for Montgomery, only to hurt his knee and exit the game after four carries.

Just when it looked as though the Packers had settled on their feature back, it now seems as though there is even more on the right arm and legs of Aaron Rodgers to keep pushing the ball downfield.

Williams was higher on the depth chart because he was the better complement to Montgomery’s shifty, third-down-back style. With Jones now in line to take over the touches, the Packers don’t have to change what they’re doing.

As ESPN.com reporter Mike Reiss noted, the Patriots held a light walkthrough-type practice Tuesday (making it unlikely Gronkowski sustained an injury then) and Gronk did not mention the issue when speaking with reporters Tuesday. The team, including Gronkowski, traveled to Tampa Wednesday afternoon, but he won’t be in action tonight.

Beyond Gronkowski, the injury report for fantasy-relevant Cheap NFL Jerseys Paypal offensive skill position players is relatively light heading into the Week 5 Thursday Cheap Authentic MLB Jerseys night game.
