NFL free agency: Chiefs release WR Jeremy Maclin

The Chiefs have released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, the team announced on Friday.

Maclin, an eight-year NFL veteran, had 44 receptions for 536 yards and two touchdowns in 2016.

Julian Edelman and Patriots reached agreement on a two-year extension that ties him to New England through 2019 season, per source.

NFL Media reported early Thursday the Patriots and Edelman were moving toward a contract extension. Things were finalized later in the day.

Edelman, 31, was originally a seventh-round draft pick out of Kent State in 2009 and is entering the final year of a four-year, $17 million contract signed in 2014.

Edelman has been among the league’s leading receivers over the last few years, including 98 catches for 1,106 yards last season. He caught 92 passes for 972 yards in 2014 and had 105 receptions for 1,056 yards in 2013.

Over his career, the former college quarterback has 425 receptions for 4,540 yards and 24 touchdowns while helping the Patriots win a pair of Super Bowl titles.
